Holy Family Catholic School offers the Girl Scouting Program from grades 1 – 8; Daisy’s, Brownies, Jr. Girl Scouts and Girl Scouts.

As a Girl Scout, you’ll always be trying new things, and learning there are hundreds of small, powerful ways you can take the lead every single day. You could build a robot, create your own work of art, or climb a wall in the great outdoors. Every time you try something new, you’ll discover you can do more than you ever thought possible. Plus, you’ll have a ton of fun every step of the way. With Girl Scouts, there’s a whole world of new opportunities and you-can-do-anything confidence waiting just for you!

Along the way, she’ll gain important skills in four areas that form the foundation of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience:

  • Science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM)
  • Outdoors
  • Life Skills
  • Entrepreneurship

While she may be exposed to these subjects at school, in other youth programs, or even on her own, at Girl Scouts she’ll experience them in a unique way that puts her on a path to a lifetime of leadership, adventure, and success. And because our program is girl-led, girls decide what they’ll do, together.

Safeguard the Children – Note: Every Holy family volunteer (parent, grandparent, family member 18+, caregiver etc.) must have submitted the above mentioned requirements to both Holy Family Catholic School AND Holy Family Catholic Church prior to signing up to  volunteer for supervising children in any capacity such as driving students to a field trip, serving hot lunch, attending overnight trips, coaching, SCOUTING, supervising students in the drama program or any parish program where an individual will be volunteering with or around children.

Our textbook series this year for social studies from TCI. The book and accompanying interactive notebook are available online at www.teachtci.com. The website also has information explaining TCI’s unique approach. The program takes social studies online and straight to students’ imaginations with its interactive, engaging, and collaborative curriculum . . . TCI programs get kids moving, thinking, and learning, sometimes all at the same time.

The foundation of TCI is in its approach to teaching. Every TCI program is designed to reach learners of all abilities using multiple intelligences teaching strategies and theory and research-based active instruction. Students go in-depth and hands-on in every TCI program.

We will follow the journey of humankind from the dawn of civilization (c. 3500 B.C.E.) to the fall of the Roman Empire in 476 A.D.. During this period, humans emerged from life as village dwellers to the builders of amazing civilizations. Great empires rose and fell, and new philosophies and religions changed the world.

Middle School Math

 

My goal is for students to embrace Math and Learning. Students who show respect, take notes, show their work, and do their accelerated math and homework will be successful in my class. Communication is very important. I want to teach my students to advocate for themselves and to be comfortable communicating with authority. So I encourage them to email me themselves if they have questions or concerns.

Accelerated Math in Middle School

Accelerated Math is an essential part of the Holy Family School math curriculum that provides deep math practice at the unique levels students need in order for them to grow—from foundational skills to grade-level standards. It’s the key to mastering math: Building incremental confidence. Once students feel confident, they open up to mathematical discourse in the classroom and productive struggle in their practice, to enrich their math experience.

Students will be expected to complete about 10 objectives per month and 30 objectives per trimester. Students will be graded 3 times during each trimester based on how many objectives they complete. Students must take practices (online) in order to get testable objectives. Once they have 5 testable objectives I will print them a test. If they “pass” those 5 objectives then, they will have 5 mastered objectives towards their goal. Beware: if you fail review problems, objectives may become un-mastered! If a student did not understand a concept or missed a lesson please try to troubleshoot. Visit www.my.hrw.com Students will receive a username and password to this site via email. There is a digital copy of your book and videos of a teacher explaining each lesson! If a student has trouble anytime, please watch a video, if they are still confused they can email me or come to 7:15 am tutoring.

Tutoring

Study sessions will be held every Wednesday and Friday morning at 7:15am. The door will be open at 7:15 am sharp. Students who arrive late may not be allowed to attend. You are encouraged to attend the sessions when you need help, I will be here to answer questions.

8th Grade Science

Study Tips

Students should take notes during the warm ups and class discussions. Quizzes will mirror warm ups and Tests will mirror study guides. Also students can use Quizlet to study vocabulary. There is a premade vocabulary list for almost every chapter. These can be found easily by searching the chapter title and book name in Quizlet. *Quizlet will be loaded on each students iPad

Notes

Notes can be taken on an iPad using any note app. They must be filed neatly and clearly labeled. I will ask for your file of notes at the end of each trimester. Notes will consist of daily warm ups and any lecture notes including study guides for each chapter.

Chapter Labs/Standards Warmups

Chapter Labs will be completed once a chapter. They will be done in lab groups and all materials will be provided. Each student must do his or her own FORMAL lab write up. Lab write ups must include: (1) Problem, (2) Prediction, (3) Data, (4) Analyze and Conclude Questions, and (5) Design an Experiment in PMP form!

Standards WarmUps are shorter lesson labs. They will be done in lab groups and all materials will be provided. Each group member will turn in one lab by the end of the class period. There will need to include (1)data qualitative, quantitative or both and (2) think it over questions. If not turned in by the end of the class period they will be penalized 50% for being late.

The elementary years are a time when students begin to develop their academic self-concept and feelings of competence and confidence as learners. They are beginning to develop decision-making, communication and life skills, as well as character values. It is also a time when students develop and acquire attitudes toward school, self, peers, social groups and family.
