El Día de tu Santo
WHAT IS IT?
El Día del Santo is a day that Hispanics may celebrate in addition to their birthdays on the feast day of their namesake patron saint.
WHO CELEBRATES IT?
Traditionally, among Hispanics who practice the Roman Catholic faith, a Hispanic child is named after a saint.
Sometimes, in fact, a baby's name is chosen based on the day he or she is born. Each saint has his or her own feast day in the Catholic Church, and the child may be named after whichever saint's feast is on the day the child is born.
HOW DO PEOPLE
CELEBRATE IT?
On the feast day of the namesake saint, the family celebrates with a party and often attends church. The celebration usually has a religious slant, and the celebrant customarily receives gifts as well.
