Middle School Math


My goal is for students to embrace Math and Learning. Students who show respect, take notes, show their work, and do their accelerated math and homework will be successful in my class. Communication is very important. I want to teach my students to advocate for themselves and to be comfortable communicating with authority. So I encourage them to email me themselves if they have questions or concerns.

Accelerated Math in Middle School

Accelerated Math is an essential part of the Holy Family School math curriculum that provides deep math practice at the unique levels students need in order for them to grow—from foundational skills to grade-level standards. It’s the key to mastering math: Building incremental confidence. Once students feel confident, they open up to mathematical discourse in the classroom and productive struggle in their practice, to enrich their math experience.

Students will be expected to complete about 10 objectives per month and 30 objectives per trimester. Students will be graded 3 times during each trimester based on how many objectives they complete. Students must take practices (online) in order to get testable objectives. Once they have 5 testable objectives I will print them a test. If they “pass” those 5 objectives then, they will have 5 mastered objectives towards their goal. Beware: if you fail review problems, objectives may become un-mastered! If a student did not understand a concept or missed a lesson please try to troubleshoot. Visit www.my.hrw.com Students will receive a username and password to this site via email. There is a digital copy of your book and videos of a teacher explaining each lesson! If a student has trouble anytime, please watch a video, if they are still confused they can email me or come to 7:15 am tutoring.


Study sessions will be held every Wednesday and Friday morning at 7:15am. The door will be open at 7:15 am sharp. Students who arrive late may not be allowed to attend. You are encouraged to attend the sessions when you need help, I will be here to answer questions.

A complete Class Syllabus is available to each student and parent on Schoology which is password protected.

Prior to becoming an educator I worked in banking and telecommunications for over 10 years. After my second son was born I decided to make a career change and pursue my passion for education. As a native Spanish speaker, I used my Spanish language skills routinely with my international business clients. Combining business background, my natural first language, and passion for education, I developed a custom Spanish language immersion program for all ages, Alegria Learning.  While working with Alegria Learning clients I also began assisting the Spanish program at Holy Family School in 2012. In 2014, I was hired as HFS’s middle school Spanish teacher.  

A strong focus of my teaching approach is to incorporate technology and other innovative methods to keep students engaged in their language learning experience. Emphasis is placed in improving the student’s level of proficiency in the target language.

In addition to the language itself, students are taught about culture associated with the Spanish language. During the year students learn about fun and interesting cultural traditions and events, such as Día de los Muertos, Hispanic Heritage Month, Los barriletes de Guatemala, Los Gauchos of Argentina, Inti Raymi Festival from Perú, and the list goes on!

I feel that my journey as an educator over the past six years has been a true blessing.

I am currently in my 19th year at Holy Family School.  During my tenure as the athletic director, the program has more than doubled in size and reached new heights in success; two things that give me great pride.  Being the AD keeps me busy…and I like it that way.  I have served on the CYO of Los Angeles’ Athletic Advisory Board since 2006 and dedicate as much time as I can to help promote and improve the athletics program not only at HFS, but throughout the Archdiocese.

I have been teaching at Holy Family since 2011.  I grew up in San Diego and attended Occidental College in Eagle Rock.  After graduating from Oxy with a degree in Diplomacy and World Affairs and minors in English and Political Science, I moved north to attend Stanford Law School.  I spent ten years practicing law, first as a clerk to an appellate judge, then as a trial attorney at the Department of Justice in Washington, D.C., and finally in private practice here in Los Angeles.  To spend more time raising my three children, I “retired” from the practice of law.  During those years at home, I rediscovered my love of literature and found that I really enjoyed helping my kids with their writing and literary analysis.  These discoveries led me to obtaining my teaching credential in order to share my love of reading and writing with young people.  At Holy Family, I have been fortunate to also use my legal training as a coach of the mock trial team.  Our 2015 championship was easily one of the highlights of my professional career!  I was also lucky enough to be selected by in 2016 by the Museum of Tolerance for an educator fellowship in Berlin focused on teaching the Holocaust, an experience I have tried to bring into my eighth-grade classroom.

    In my spare time, I love to travel, read, watch my youngest daughter play soccer, seek out new and interesting restaurants with my husband, and try to catch up with my two kids in college!
