This course is designed to continue developing students proficiency and fluency in the Spanish language. The four language skills listening, reading, writing, and speaking – are developed in a meaningful context as the students talk and write about themes that are relevant to them. The students will work on fun projects such as Una Calavera (Dia de Los Muertos poem), Influential Latino/a Todo Acerca de Mí, and Mis Pasatiempos. The students explore culture to learn about Spanish-speaking countries. Students will read two basic level novels, Las aventuras de Isabela by Karen Rowan and Berto y sus buenas ideas by Magaly Rodriguez; these short books will reinforce their reading and comprehension of the target language.

 

 

 

7th-grade-course description 

Spanish 1A course is the first in a two-part series that emphasizes active communication in Spanish. The four language skills – listening, reading, writing and speaking – are developed in a meaningful context as the students talk and write about themes that are relevant to them. In this course, students begin the first half of Spanish level 1. The curriculum is thematic based and also introduces grammatical 20161102_114758concepts. In 7th grade, students will read two novels, Pobre Ana, and  El Secreto de Su Nombre. Culture is explored as the students learn about Spanish-speaking countries such as  Mexico, Guatemala, Puerto Rico and Perú.


8th grade course description

Spanish 1B course is the second in a two-part series that emphasizes active communication in Spanish. The four language skills – listening, reading, writing and speaking – continue to be developed in a meaningful context.  This is the second half of Spanish level 1 which will continue introducing grammatical concepts through a thematic curriculum. Students will read two novels Tumba by Miza Canion and Casi se muere by Lisa Ray Turner and Blaine Ray. These short novels will continue to develop their reading and comprehension of the target language.  Culture is explored  as the students learn about Spanish-speaking countries such asEspaña, Argentina and Chile.
