Dear School Community,
As many of you have already heard, Holy Family School is the 2015-2016 Los Angeles County Middle School Mock Trial champions!
For those who aren’t familiar, the mock trial competition takes place in an actual courtroom, where the students serve as attorneys, witnesses, and other members of the courtroom. Two teams compete at a time, and scoring is based on their ability to present their case, cross-examine witnesses, and make opening and closing arguments. It is truly something to wtiness how poised they all are in performing their roles.
This year’s tournament began last month with 52 teams from both public and private schools throughout the Los Angeles County area. Our team was Led expertly by Mrs. Diane Evans and Ms. Merritt. Their inspiration and expertise was an important part of the chemistry that made our team so successful; we are grateful to them for offering so much (and sacrificing so many hours) to help our team reach their goals.
I especially want you to know that we are so very proud of our team members, not just for winning, but also for their hard work, dedication, and the way they conducted themselves throughout the tournament. In fact, when Holy Family was announced as the winning team, they immediately congratulated their counterparts, which evoked a comment from the judge about their graciousness–it was not just about themselves.
Thank you to our Mock Trial team for bringing us so much excitement, and making us feel so very proud. We won’t soon forget!
Dr. Frank Montejano
